Glass is the most magical of art mediums because it is an interplay with light reflection, refraction and transmission into a piece of wonder and beauty. Fused glass takes this further by combining heat, color and light which results in a wide variety of artistic possibilities. I create my exciting glass designs one at a time, is there one just for you? I have been fascinated by glass since I was a child and watched glass torchworkers make tiny figurines at fairs. Glass has a movement all it's own that reminds me of a flowing liquid in locked in frozen suspension. I believe that as an artist you have to believe in your work and yourself first and commit to coninually pushing your art. Building on the interplay of light with the glass allows me to go make a work of art that is more than the sum of its parts. I have pushed the limits with my art to new areas and incorporated art and techniques from other realms to make my pieces truly unique. My art work often focuses on the abstract but with a contemporary and organic textural "twist". My greatest artistic influences are Dale Chihuly and Mother Nature, both pioneers in their own right. I admire Dale for his vision and experience and Mother Nature for her striking use of bold colors and textures. There is a huge variety of colors, textures, patterns, and possibilities with glass. They can all be mixed to created a nearly limitless variety, and when light is added, the possiblities are boundless. I started working with warm glass since 2001. It is a fascinating medium, and has many possiblities. After taking just one class, I was hooked! Glass has so many possibilties, it is not just for windows anymore! Jewelry, lighting, art, dishes, containers and beads can be made from glass. This fragile medium can be surprisingly durable if properly managed from inception to the final creation.
History: Thanks to science and the pioneers in the glass art world, we have the wide variety of colors, textures and techniques that are evolving rapidly. Dichroic Glass: |
